This fundraising event was held to promote inter-faith cohesion, while engaging youths in understanding socio-economic issues through the provision and distribution of 8888 halal meals to the less privileged across Singapore, regardless of race or religion. Volunteers providing the free meals alleviated the day-to-day concerns of the less fortunate and they would be able to focus energy towards other more productive activities.
We may not have starving people in Singapore. But we do have a substantial number in the community who survive mainly on instant food provided by various organisations. While we are grateful for this assistance, we would like to go one step further and offer a warm and nutritious meal to someone who may not be as lucky as most of us.
